Gordon Setter

It is known that this aristocratically handsome bird dog originated in Scotland as early as 1620 when it is mentioned in the writings of that time. The breed was perfected at the end of the 18th century in the kennels of the Duke of Gordon, which give the dog its name. Gordon Setters were first imported to the United States in 1842 and have since enjoyed great popularity as both a hunting dog and family pet.

The Gordon Setter has an excellent nose, and although they don't have great speed, they have tremendous stamina, so they can keep a constant pace on the field throughout the day.

The Gordon Setter breed standard allows for a wide range of sizes (from 55 to 80 pounds for dogs and 45 to 70 pounds for bitches) as athletes from different regions of Scotland bred Gordons of different sizes to suit the local hunting conditions in their area.

The Gordon Setter's coat is a striking combination of silky black and mahogany markings with sporty feathers on the ears, legs, chest and tail. He has an aristocratic demeanor that compliments his natural intelligence.

Gordon Setters make great pets, as well as good hunting dogs. They are loyal to family members, child friendly, and eager to please.
